Henry Chu, an early member of the Basement Workshop, regularly captured photographs of Basement’s programs and events. His photo, Charlie Chin Performance on Catherine Street depicts William “Charlie” Chin of A Grain of Sand performing at the Henry Street Fair in 1972. When not taking photos, Chu helped teach and coordinate usage of a small, one-person darkroom open for usage by community members at Basement’s 22 Catherine Street location. After leaving Basement, Chu taught high school photography courses for 28 years on Long Island.
