American Born and Foreign was an anthology of poetry by Asian American writers and edited by members of the Basement Workshop’s Writers’ Workshop. Published in 1979 by Sunbury Press, the anthology was a collaborative effort with illustrations and photographs provided by Tomie Arai, Alex Chin, Arlan Huang, Nina Kuo, Alan Okada, and John Woo. Divided into thematic sections on “Working Mothers and Fathers,” “Rituals,” “Chinatown,” “Alienation,” “Relationships,” “Passion,” and “Visions,” contributors to the anthology were of Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, and Hawaiian descent.
