As an artist and filmmaker, Y. David Chung’s work combines digital imaging technologies with analog drawing and printmaking. The Mr. Choi and Salesman character masks were featured in Seoul House (Korean Outpost), an electronic rap opera and drawing installation about a Korean-owned grocery store in a Black neighborhood, underlining the entanglement of economic inequality and racism in American cities brought bare in high-profile conflicts in both Los Angeles in New York in the nineties. This work was presented in The Decade Show: Frameworks of Identity in the 1980s at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 1990.
