First published in 1971 by the Basement Workshop, Bridge was a premier Asian American magazine with readership across the country. In juxtaposition to traditional American media which catered to a predominantly White audience, Bridge was created to engage in a wide range of topics targeted at Asian Americans. Initially focusing on foreign politics with China and Chinese American issues, the magazine expanded to cover Asian American cultural criticism, poetry, fiction, and national political issues of concern. Bridge became a major outlet for many prominent Asian American scholars, writers, and artists, often being their first outlet for writing in a public forum. In 1979, the publication transferred ownership to Asian CineVision until ceasing production in 1985.
