Imaan Deen

Painting of objects (martini glass with olives, jester, strawberry, blimp with an attached U.S. dollar) against a blue and green background
Image of Corner of the World, courtsey of the artist.

Corner of the World, 2023
Acrylic on Raw Canvas, 40 x 34.5 in.

Exploring the increasing mechanization of the world by humans, this piece geometrizes the classic blue sky and green grass we associate with nature. Using mundane objects ubiquitous to humans as the central figures of the artwork pushes the narrative of inserting ourselves and what we believe to be of importance into a scenery that would rather benefit from being untouched. This dominion over nature directly relates to the progression of climate change and how excessive human interference has led to a crumbling of the sacred and natural.

Imaan Deen, an artist from California, is currently based in New York as an art student at NYU. She uses mixed media, typically with a base layer of acrylic in her paintings. She is inspired by the real life habits and problems that characterize human nature. Imaan tries to alter the terms in which we see everyday things in order to understand them better.
