Nota cultural: Ser doctor o abogado

En Estados Unidos, para ser médico (doctor) o abogado (lawyer), los estudiantes no pueden empezar la carrera (degree) justo después de (after) la escuela secundaria. Primero, estudian cuatro años en la universidad. Después de terminar (finish) la universidad, pueden postularse (apply) a la escuela de medicina o derecho (law).
En muchos países hispanohablantes, los estudiantes comienzan a estudiar medicina o derecho justo después de la secundaria. La carrera de medicina dura seis o siete años e incluye clases y práctica en hospitales. Luego, los médicos hacen una residencia de dos a cinco años. La carrera de derecho dura (lasts) unos cinco años. En conclusión, en estos países, no es necesario estudiar una licenciatura (bachelor’s degree) antes de empezar medicina o derecho.

🔎 Fun Fact: Library and librería may look like they mean the same thing, but they don’t! Library actually translates to biblioteca, while librería means bookstore. These are false cognates, also known as “false friends”, words that appear the same in two languages but have completely different meanings.
So, if you walk into a librería thinking you’ll borrow a book, don’t be surprised when they ask you to pay for it! 😆
