2.2 Estudios en la universidad y carreras
1. ¡A circular! Go around the classroom and find at least 4 (four) different classmates and ask them what they are currently studying. Make sure to write down their answers.

En Estados Unidos, para ser médico (doctor) o abogado (lawyer), los estudiantes no pueden empezar la carrera (degree) justo después de (after) la escuela secundaria. Primero, estudian cuatro años en la universidad. Después de terminar (finish) la universidad, pueden postularse (apply) a la escuela de medicina o derecho (law).
En muchos países hispanohablantes, los estudiantes comienzan a estudiar medicina o derecho justo después de la secundaria. La carrera de medicina dura seis o siete años e incluye clases y práctica en hospitales. Luego, los médicos hacen una residencia de dos a cinco años. La carrera de derecho dura (lasts) unos cinco años. En conclusión, en estos países, no es necesario estudiar una licenciatura (bachelor’s degree) antes de empezar medicina o derecho.

2.6 Verbos regulares -er y -ir en el presente, modo indicativo
1. Entrevista a tu compañere. Ask your partner the following questions about their life at the university. Write down all of their answers (in complete sentences) and be prepared to share them with the class.

2. Adivina la profesión o carrera. In groups of two or three, one student describes a profession or field of study using regular -er and -ir verbs without saying the name of the profession/field. The other two students must guess what they are referring to.

3. Mi horario ideal. Create your ideal schedule at the university (you can choose to write about the schedule for a perfect day or week). Then, share your ideal schedule with a partner and ask each other follow up questions.

1. Los números de teléfono. In Spanish, phone numbers are read in pairs (e.g. 75 = "setenta y cinco"). If there’s an odd number of digits, the first digit is read alone, then the rest in pairs. In pairs, take turns reading the following phone numbers out loud.

2. La agenda misteriosa. Each student receives a weekly agenda with activities some days. In pairs, you will ask each other what each is doing on a specific day without looking at the other’s paper. Then, you must write what your partner is doing on each day and share with the class their plans for that week. Make sure you conjugate each verb according to the subject.

3. ¡Una fiesta! In groups of three or four students, you will decide a date (time, day and month) when you will have a party for your friends. You must all decide what needs to get done before the party, who will do it and on which day, as well as what you will do during the party.

1. ¿A qué hora…? In pairs, ask each other the following questions. Make sure you are prepared to share your and your partner’s answers with the class.

2. El día de Anabel. In partners, discuss Anabel’s day and indicate what activities she does and at what times you think she does them.

3. ¿Qué hora es y qué haces? In groups of three you will receive three images and three times of the day, upside down. Each student will grab an image and a time and must make a sentence indicating the activity that is being done along with the time of day that it is being done at. The group must decide if the sentence is logical based on the time of day. If the sentence created is not logical you must either correct it or create a better one.
