Here are some prompts to help you practice your writing skills. You can make a copy of this Google Doc and work on it at your leisure. Remember to use the vocabulary and grammar used in the chapter, without any outside help!
Prompt 1: Write a message to a friend from home in which you talk about your major. What do you study? What classes are you taking? and what it takes to become a professional in that field. Describe what a successful professional in your field is and is not like. Make your message conversational by asking your friend about their life. How are work or their studies going? Show genuine interest in their experiences and include at least two follow-up questions to keep the conversation going.
Prompt 2: Imagine you are a recruiter for a specific professional field of your choice and write a dialogue where the recruiter speaks with a potential candidate. The recruiter must ask questions about the candidates personality and work ethic as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Make sure that the candidate asks the recruiter at least one question.
Prompt 3: Write a letter to a family member or friend telling them what you do on the weekends in the city, whether you run through the park or study at the library, be very detailed and indicate on what days and at what times you do these activities. Make sure to ask them questions about themselves, their weekends and/or their schedules.
Prompt 4: What is your semester like? What is your current major? Write a paragraph where you indicate what you are studying at university, what your schedule is like every day of the week and what qualities do you and your professors have that make you good at what you do/study.
