Serban Ionescu

Serban Ionescu is a Romanian-born, New York-based artist whose work fuses sculpture, architecture, and furniture into animated improvisational forms. Trained in architecture, Ionescu approaches everyday structures with a sense of play, transforming utilitarian forms into expressive anthropomorphic characters. His practice channels an intuitive, drawing-based methodology into vibrant three-dimensional assemblages.  Ionescu’s pieces suggest a dreamlike reimagining of the built environment—chairs and architectural motifs are stretched, exaggerated, and rearranged into whimsical configurations.
