Las partes del cuerpo (Parts of the Body)

¡Barriga llena, corazón contento! Is just one of the many refranes that exist in the Spanish-speaking world! This one in particular (Full belly, happy heart) reminds us how important good and healthy food is for a happy life. But how do we describe the body that enjoys all that nourishment?

The following vocabulary will help us name and describe different parts of the body so we can better talk about how we feel, how we care for ourselves, and how we connect with others.

These vocabulary words were read by a speaker from New York City, United States.

Note: Remember when you learned about gustar and similar verbs in the previous chapter? Doler is also a verb that acts like gustar and is used to describe physical pain in the body. Don’t forget that it is also a stem changing verb (o → ue). For example:

  • A mí me duele la cabeza. 🤕
  • My head hurts.
  • A la profesora le duele la espalda. 🧑‍🏫
  • The professor’s back hurts.
  • Te duelen los hombros después de cargar una mochila pesada. 🎒😣
  • Your shoulders hurt after carrying a heavy backpack.
