Here are some prompts to help you practice your writing skills. You can make a copy of this Google Doc and work on it at your leisure. Remember to use the vocabulary and grammar used in the chapter, without any outside help!

Prompt 1: You’ve just moved into your new dorm room on campus. Write a message to your best friend back home, ask them how they are doing and what they are doing right now. Tell them what and how you are doing at the moment and describe your new space. Mention what you have and don’t have in your room or living area as well as where they are located using estar and prepositions of place. Ask your friend about their dorm or space. Make sure to close your message out with a proper goodbye.

Prompt 2: You’ve just met a transfer student who is new to the city and the university and they need a bit of help getting to know the campus and neighborhood. Write them a message describing the campus and what important buildings or places are located near each other. Talk about where you and your friends like to hang out, study, eat, etc. Ask them about their favorite places back home and if they like exploring new cities as well and recommend some cool places to visit and things to do in New York.

Prompt 3: You’re writing a blog post titled Un día en mi vida universitaria. Describe a typical weekday for you at the university. Include details about where you go, what you do, and what you’re currently thinking of doing right after you are done writing your post. Mention some of your classes and any tasks or routines that are important to you (make sure to use some verbs with changes in the first person). End your post with questions for your readers about their university routines.

Prompt 4: Write a dialogue between two university students talking about how they are feeling today, why, and what’s going on in their lives right now. They should talk about places on campus where they study or relax, what classes they are taking and describe what they are doing today to help with their moods. Each “student” should mention a class or activity involving a stem changing verb!
