Los números del 0-30 (Numbers 0-30)
(See alt text in this document)
Something to note about the number one (uno) and numbers that end in uno is that it agrees in gender with the noun they are referring to when used as a quantifier. When followed by a masculine noun, you must transform uno into un and when followed by a feminine noun it must be una. For example:
- Tengo veintiún años. 🎂
- I am twenty one years old.
Notice here that we use ventiún instead of -uno because años is a masculine noun.
- Tengo una hermana menor. 👶🏼
- I have a younger sister.
Notice that here una is used as it is followed by a feminine noun.
- – ¿Tienes una mochila? 🎒
– Sí, tengo una. 👍
(Translation)
– Do you have a backpack?
– Yes, I have one.
- – ¿Tienes un lápiz? ✏️
– Sí, tengo uno.
(Translation)
– Do you have a pencil?
– Yes, I have one.
Notice: In examples three and four, because the number in the response is not followed by a noun, we don’t have to make changes to the masculine uno and the feminine noun remains the same.
