Reflections Of Gowanus Canal
This project investigates the Gowanus Canal Superfund Site in Brooklyn, where decades of industrial pollution have collided with ongoing cleanup efforts and urban development. Through photography, I aim to capture the stark evidence of contamination, the city’s environmental interventions, and the persistent presence of nature. From floating debris and toxic water to dredging equipment and sprouting plants, the series presents a visual narrative of “nature vs. toxicity.” It also reflects on the surrounding community—where luxury apartments stand near hazardous zones, and residents continue to engage with the canal despite its risks. My work seeks to raise awareness about environmental justice, human responsibility, and nature’s quiet strength.
