Saxophonist Stephen Horenstein arrived in Bill Dixon's Bennington sphere in 1970 and was a lasting presence in several facets of the work for the next decade. He was one of the principal soloists of the Black Music Ensembles there and at the University of Wisconsin, and also taught on faculty in Bennington's Black Music Division as it strengthened through the Seventies. Over four decades of his own composition, teaching experience, and institution-building will inform Horenstein's presentation on Bill Dixon's pedagogy.
