  • October 21, 2025, 6-8pm: Listening session from the Bill Dixon Papers, hosted by Ben Young with special guest Leopanar Witlarge, who was part of the 1968 recordings of the University of the Streets Orchestra overseen by Dixon. Avery Fisher Center Immersion Room, Bobst Library, 70 Washington Square South, Seventh Floor.

November 2025

  • November 13, 2025, 6-8pm: Listening session from the Bill Dixon Papers, with guest presenter Stephen Horenstein. Avery Fisher Center Immersion Room, Bobst Library, 70 Washington Square South, Seventh Floor.

Saxophonist Stephen Horenstein arrived in Bill Dixon's Bennington sphere in 1970 and was a lasting presence in several facets of the work for the next decade. He was one of the principal soloists of the Black Music Ensembles there and at the University of Wisconsin, and also taught on faculty in Bennington's Black Music Division as it strengthened through the Seventies. Over four decades of his own composition, teaching experience, and institution-building will inform Horenstein's presentation on Bill Dixon's pedagogy.
